Worship

One of the highest priorities at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Red Lion is to gather as a community and experience meaningful services of worship. Those attending worship at St. John’s expect to participate in well crafted liturgy, listen to special music that touches their heart and be challenged by messages that speak to the issues we face as Christians in today’s culture. In the UCC we often say, “Our faith is 2,000 years old; our thinking is not!”

Our worship life at St. John’s is punctuated with the rich traditions of the Christian calendar year as we observe all of the major Christian festivals and seasons, such as Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, and All Saints’ Day. Throughout the year St. John’s regularly celebrates the Sacrament of Holy Communion, as well as offering the Sacrament of Baptism to our children, youth and adults. Each Sunday members of the church read scriptures from the Revised Common Lectionary during the service(s) of worship. While our church is not Biblically rigid, we are certainly Biblically oriented and always seek to be Christ-centered!

Throughout the year the order of service is varied, as we frequently utilize a variety of worship styles and periods to achieve our own unique and meaningful blend of worship. Our historic and beautiful sanctuary is equipped with state of the art sound and projection capabilities, which we utilize in tasteful ways to enhance our liturgy, our congregational singing, certain choral performances, as well as enhancing an occasional sermon with visual images. Several times a year an attendee will experience an entire service conducted in a contemporary worship style. Also quarterly, we return to our roots and use the Evangelical and Reformed Order of Worship, and offer the Rite of Anointing and the “laying of hands” at our healing services.

You are invited to join us for worship any Sunday Morning at 10:15 a.m. in our sanctuary. If you would like more information regarding upcoming services of worship, please check out the monthly calendar or call the church office (717) 244-5031 for more service details. Many people wonder what you should wear to our services!! We invite you to wear comfortable clothing that reflects your personality! At St. John’s we say, “No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome!” Come as you are, and be open to hearing the still speaking voice of God.
